Food waste recycling company Warrens Group said more than tonnes of pumpkins for renewable energy may end up at its facility in County Durham, UK.
The company will recycle the pumpkins to supply its large fleet of collection trucks and heat people's homes.
Environmental charity Hubbub predicts that million pumpkins will be wasted in the UK this year. Kevin Quigley, sales director at Warrens Group , encourages people to recycle their pumpkins to produce renewable energy.
“After Halloween is over, most pumpkins are thrown into a landfill or compost pile,” Quigley said , “that's a lot of waste when they can be converted into something much more sustainable, like renewable energy.
“We use the company's fleet of vehicles to collect and take advantage of food waste. With that, the pumpkin waste to generate renewable energy is introduced into our anaerobic digesters that are over Caseno Email List flowing with bacteria that later decompose them.

“On the other hand, pumpkins decompose, releasing methane gas , which can subsequently generate an ecological biofuel. We use this fuel where we supply the company's fleet and the rest is for the National Grid to heat the homes of people who prefer clean energy.
